Episode 54: Fr. McCarthy's First Homily

Catholics Against Militarism

Published on Aug 9, 2021

Today marks the 40th anniversary of Fr. McCarthy's ordination. This is a recording of the homily he gave at his first Divine Liturgy (Mass) on September 13, 1981, previously heard only by the people who were there. It tells the story of an incredible 20-year journey that led a Roman Catholic boy from Boston to being ordained by Patriarch Maximus V as a married priest of the Melkite Rite on August 9, 1981 in Damascus, Syria; but even more importantly, it is the story of a God who knows each person intimately and loves each person infinitely.
