•José Gervasio Artigas fue un militar y estadista rioplatense que actuó durante la Guerra de la Independencia de las Provincias Unidas del Río de la Plata y que se destacó por ser el heraldo del federalismo en lo que hoy son Argentina y Uruguay. Recibió los títulos de «Jefe de los Orientales» y «Protector de los Pueblos Libres». Es honrado en ambas márgenes del Río de la Plata, siendo el máximo prócer de Uruguay y también prócer en Argentina.

Murió en Paraguay en donde él era llamado Karaí-Guazú que significa Gran Señor, tiene un monumento sobre él en aquel país y una escuela que estudia sobre él.
•José Gervasio Artigas was a military man and statesman from La Plata who acted during the War of Independence of the United Provinces of the Río de la Plata and who stood out for being the herald of federalism in what are now Argentina and Uruguay. He received the titles of "Chief of the Orientals" and "Protector of the Free Peoples". He is honored on both banks of the Río de la Plata, being the greatest hero in Uruguay and also the hero in Argentina.
