I address media mischaracterizations of the London Conference on Intelligence (LCI). Empirical evidence for what is termed the Gould Effect - the controversialization of an entire scientific field
resulting from politically motivated attacks on a subset of its findings - is presented. Scientometric analysis of LCI abstracts and research outputs also challenges media portrayals of the nature of the conference.
