CNN's chief media correspondent commended Fox News host Tucker Carlson for questioning President Trump’s decision to order a drone strike on a top Iranian general.

Brian Stelter praised Carlson, who works for a network Stelter often criticizes for being right-of-center, for offering a different perspective from other Fox News opinion hosts and bursting "the propaganda bubble."

"The counterargument that I have heard from Fox’s Tucker Carlson, notably right there in prime-time on Fox News, isn’t there a lot of bad guys in this world, a lot of killers in this world, and is it always in America’s interests to take action against them?" Stelter said. "He burst the propaganda bubble on Fox with a really clear anti-war stance.

"We know that in the past, Tucker has been persuasive with President Trump," Stelter continued. "Right now, though, it seems Trump is listening to Sean Hannity and others on Fox who are urging him to show what they call strength in the region."
In a Friday monologue, Carlson questioned the wisdom of killing Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani. Trump ordered the strike on Thursday after Soleimani organized a group of protesters to storm the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad.

"No one in Washington is in the mood for big-picture questions right now," Carlson said. "Questions — the obvious ones like: Is Iran really the greatest threat we face and who’s actually benefiting from this and why are we continuing to ignore the decline of our own country in favor of jumping into another quagmire from which there is no obvious exit?"
