Dutch scholar Desiderius Erasmus was no pacifist supporter of open borders. He was a Christian nationalist who called for new crusades against the Islamic invaders of Europe. But today's liberal history books won't tell you that the writer, and others like him, had called for a tough and masculine Christendom in order to violently defend Europe.
