This fascinating man has influenced Denmark in more ways than I can put into words here.
In my opinion his most influencial and important idea was obviously the idea of folkish tribalism, which he promoted through his unique type of folk schools.
But an equally relevant idea is his perspective on Christianity and norse mythology and paganism as complementary, instead of in opposition to each other.
He believed that faith in Christ was the path to salvation for the soul - but in order to really know one self and ones people, you need to know about its roots. Thus he also believed that knowledge about the old Gods and the glorious deeds of the ancestors was absolutely essential in order for the people to be inspired to even greater heights of achievement.
I find that beautiful and I think looking at our religious heritage this way could help overcome the very unproductive pagan vs Christian infighting.
