The upcoming US vice-presidential debate at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City is going to be one of the most exciting debates in history. House Speaker Newt Gingrich described the contrast between Vice President Mike Pence’s Indiana conservatism and Sen. Kamala Harris’s San Francisco radicalism. It sets the stage for a truly historic encounter.
After becoming Biden's running mate, Sen. Harris has toned down her radical rhetoric and moved closer to Biden's moderate style.
As of now, Trump has not fully recovered from his Covid-19 and is facing health risks, while Biden's health and whether he can survive a four-year term have been the subject of public concern. Regardless of which party wins, if the President falls ill, the Vice President will be the first in line to succeed him. Although the debate focuses on defending the presidential candidates, the public can observe the personalities and real thoughts of the vice-presidential candidates through the debates.
In fact, the 2020 election will impact more than just the United States. As the world's most powerful country with many allies, what wins the election will affect the direction of the world to a great extent. As the representative of both socialist and communist countries, China in 2020 is facing unprecedented international and domestic economic pressures. As it turns more radically left, Chinese people have already commented: "We used to think that North Korea was our past, now we realize it is our future."
The 2020 U.S. election is a clear indication that the United States is at a crossroads between capitalism and socialism, and the American people will choose which path to take. Will the U.S. lead the world in containing communist China, or will it continue its past course of coexistence with the Chinese Communist Party, gradually pushing the world toward socialism?
