Josephine Talamantez says that they agreed to move out of this building that they want to use as a museum in 1980. Actually, there was a grand jury investigation in 1979 of the Chicano Federation, also involving the Chicano Park Steering Committee. There was serious wrongdoing going on, abuse of public funds, teaching Anti-American and anti-police propaganda to children, drug dealing on the premises, equipment disappearing with no explanation, use of harassment and threats to influence people, etc. The grand jury recommended that the Chicano Federation move out of the building and separate from the Chicano Park Steering Committee. The Chicano Federation actually controlled the building. They both were booted out of the building due to the Grand Jury's findings. The Steering Committee did not willingly decide to go. I will put a link to the 79-page Grand Jury Report in the description. Just reading the first few pages is very illuminating.
Also, the the bill to make Chicano Park a National Historic Landmark never passed Congress. Obama's Secretary of the Interior just added it to the list by her own decree in Obama's last days in office. So their National Historic Landmark status is not legitimate, either.
