Later this afternoon, Transport Secretary Grant Shapps will officially unveil the Government’s traffic light master plan designed to allow overseas travel for English holidaymakers this summer. (Scotland and Wales are expected to follow along similar lines.)

All the strategic leaking to the media over the past week and more means we already know a good chunk of what’s likely to be revealed, such as…

1) The grand re-opening begins in 10 days’ time, on 17 May — indeed, Boris Johnson confirmed this on Wednesday

2) A red, amber, and green traffic light system, with countries assigned their status on the basis of their perceived Covid risk

3) Various degrees of quarantine for those returning from amber and red countries

4) Hooking up the NHS appointments app to display vaccine and test status.

Mr Shapps is poised to give us all the details at today’s 5pm Downing Street media briefing.

Join me LIVE immedately after the press conference at approximately 6pm UK time — when I’ll be taking a closer look at what is in store for us based on the announcements and whether it comes close to giving us the green light for travel.
