Forest integrity is disrupted by contraband forest exports, wildfires caused by slash-and-burn agriculture, burning grass and wood chips, and illegal logging. Negligence like a forgotten cigarette can also be fatal. While the volunteers and WWF wardens struggle to protect the woodland, the illicit loggers find ways around the law and access the best merchantable wood. The uncontrolled logging also causes soil erosion and landslides, while dry trees spread pests infecting the healthy resulting in more forest extinction. The forest is turning into a “lumber warehouse”.

Russia is the world’s largest exporter of Roundwood, with at least 200 million cubic metres chopped down every year. That is why deforestation is a big issue. Is there any way of stopping it, or is disaster inevitable?
