While the violence experienced by American citizens hasn’t come from the government, our dedication to an abstract view of freedom has cost us in other more deadly ways, such as through incarceration rates, suicides, murders, and drug and opioid epidemics. The freedom which we grew up believing in and seeing as our heritage and reality has turned into a poison pill, having no basis in reality.
