Mass protests have gripped Hong Kong once again as Beijing appears determined to effectively abolish the city’s “one country, two systems” agreement. With public attention focused on the coronavirus, Beijing has calculated that this is the right time to move. An utterly ruthless Regime that has unfortunately gained much prestige on the world stage, the CCP is now aggressively moving forward with its Greater China policy. This includes the reunification of Hong Kong, Taiwan, continued oppressive subjugation of the Tibetan People, and of course the “assimilation” read – cultural extermination - of the Uyghurs of China’s far northwestern region of Xinjiang. The Hong Kong People are proud, strong, intelligent, politically aware, and resolutely determined to safeguard their city’s autonomy and civil liberties. How this plays out is anyone’s guess but one thing is for certain - this is shaping up to be an epic David and Goliath battle.
