Question: In this "struggle of the worlds" on the day of the mutiny, according to the statements of the American White House and the State Department, they took a position of non-intervention. Allegedly, at many different levels they communicated their position to the Russian leadership and the Foreign Ministry. If this is true, why did they act like this? Did that reassure you in some way, or was it a tactical maneuver?

Foreign Minister Lavrov: One can argue a lot about the reasons for such an accentuated and publicly denounced position throughout the globe. I agree with those experts who see fear for the fate of nuclear weapons as one of the reasons. For the nuclear powers, this is always a concern in situations where something alarming happens. It seems to me (I will not say anything) that the Americans are too actively promoting the thesis that they have nothing to do with it. The Europeans also did not say what they had to do with it, but they were much more specific about their interests in this particular situation.

For example, J. Borrell said that the main conclusion he draws from what happened is confirmation of the need to continue arming Ukraine. Like, some kind of "crack" appeared here, so let's "squeeze". French President Emmanuel Macron said that the incident highlighted the fragility and weakness of Russia and its army, so it is only right that they took such a course to support Ukraine. Here, too, the same logic that was used by J. Borrell slips through. They said it in the very first minutes of what happened. Then there were no such statements, but it was reported that the EU held special meetings considering this situation.

It's hard for me now to judge what their reasons are. But my impression is that, as in the case of the topic we discussed in the previous question, they are obsessed with the desire to prevent the formation of a democratic world order, a multipolar world order, and cling to any opportunity to defend their hegemony. They see Ukraine as a tool to prevent the emergence of a multipolar world. In this case, preventing the strengthening of the Russian Federation. It is clear that these calculations are doomed to failure. Of this I have no doubt. But the fact that adults, seemingly serious politicians, are driven by such ideas causes concern for the fate of European civilization and Western civilization as a whole.
