Robert S. Mueller Special Counsel's office on Friday denied an explosive but libelous report by BuzzFeed News that his investigators had gathered evidence showing President Trump directed his former lawyer, Michael Cohen, to lie to Congress about a prospective business deal in Moscow.
“BuzzFeed’s description of specific statements to the special counsel’s office, and characterization of documents and testimony obtained by this office, regarding Michael Cohen’s congressional testimony are not accurate,” said Peter Carr, a spokesman for Mueller.
The statement was remarkable on several levels — first, the special counsel’s office speaks exceedingly rarely, and second, the statement seemed to drive a stake through a sensational allegation that Democratic lawmakers suggested earlier in the day could spell the end of the Trump presidency. As earthshaking as the claims in the story were, no other media organizations were able to match them.
In their haste to mindlessly support any reporting that is negative to President Trump - CNN, ABC, MSNBC etc. had run with the story for nearly 48 hours as if it were the gospel truth.
This is proof that uncorroborated, unsubstantiated FAKE NEWS stories about this President are rampant and goes to show the irrational hatred the media has toward President Trump - now with much egg on their faith. Forever it has furthered the damage to the credibility of MSM News and tattered and torn what little trust the American public has in modern day investigative reporting from these hate Trump dementia News networks.
Jason Leopold and Anthony Cormier, two reporters for BuzzFeed News, thought they had just scored the scoop that, had it been ultimately confirmed, would have irrevocably changed the course of the Trump presidency. Had that been so, so, it would have for Leopold , been the apex of a comeback from a troubled personal and unethical professional past.
On Thursday evening, the duo published a bombshell: A report that President Donald Trump personally directed Michael Cohen, his former attorney, to lie to Congress about the Moscow Trump Tower project.
Again folks, if the story had been accurate, it would have meant that Trump asked Cohen to commit perjury, a federal crime and potentially impeachable offense. The fake story was never corroborated by CNN, MSNBC or any other news outlet.
A spokesman for special counsel Robert Mueller's office disputed parts of BuzzFeed News' report.
