Tommie Camarillo tries to obfuscate about the symbolism of the flags they fly at Chicano Park and about their ban on the American flag flying in the Park.

The local barrio vets had to fight hard to get an veterans memorial installed int he park in a remote corner of the park. The Chicano Park Steering Committee declared then that they would never allow the American flag to fly over the park. They had to give in and allow the American flag to fly three days per year on Veterans, Memorial and Independence Days, but they still banned it on the remaining 362. It never flies on the main flagpole in the center of the park. We requested from the City to be able to raise it on the main flagpole for a couple of hours and were refused.

The vets defied their ban and raised the American flag in their corner of the park. Camarillo used this as cover to be able to say they allow the flag to be flown in the Park.
