Well, before some of you will get confused: According to the 1946 Constitution, the president's term of office would run for five years. The right to vote was allowed to all Brazilians over eighteen years of age, of both sexes, but the illiterates were prohibited from voting. It was also determined that the election for president and vice president would take place separately.

The PSD and PTB, committed to maintaining the victorious alliance in 1955, decided on the name of Marshal Henrique Teixeira Lott to head the ticket that would run for the presidency of the Republic. Within the PTB, Vice-President João Goulart emerged as the natural name to run for office again.

Since the election for vice-president was separate, could be elected the president of one ticket and the vice-president of the other ticket. And that is exactly what happened. João Goulart was elected Vice that year, forming the duo Jânio President, and Jango Vice-President ("Jan-Jan"). Marshal Lott was in second place with 32% of the votes losing to Jânio Quadros.

Errr... Okay, I think you must have understood a little bit about the madness that was the elections at that time hahaha.

This little rarity is the Jingle of the electoral ticket Lott and João Goulart. Enjoy it folks...

Letra/Lyrics:

Vamos em frente Brasil!
Vamos mostrar o valor!
Que tem um homem do campo
O nosso trabalhador!

Vote no "Jango" Goulart!
E vote no Marechal!
Vamos levar nossa chapa
Até a vitória final!

Lott! Lott! Exemplo de Brasileiro
"Jango"! "Jango"! Trabalhista Pioneiro!

De Porto Alegre à Manaus
Só uma voz subirá
Voz do povo brasileiro
Clamando quem vencerá.

É com o arar nos quadrantes
A voz do povo valente
Jango Goulart para Vice,
E o Marechal Presidente!

PS: Jango was not a Communist.
